MINERAL WELLS – The Brownwood Lady Lions originally wanted a one-game showdown with the No. 17 Kennedale Lady Kats in the Region I-3A area round of the playoffs – and Friday night Mother Nature granted their wish.
A 15-minute hail storm rendered Kessler Field unplayable as the Lady Lions (20-5) and Lady Kats (21-10) were forced to switch venues. Aledo will now host Brownwood and Kennedale at 1 p.m. today.
Also, the playoff will be decided in a single game - which Lady Lions head coach Amanda Sheffield had hoped for prior to losing a coin toss - despite initial talk of continuing with a best-of-three series. A deciding Game 3 would have been held on Monday, but with STARR testing on Tuesday that idea was nixed.
“It’s been a whirlwind of events today,” Sheffield said. “I’ve never seen our girls so excited to play and they are up for the same challenge tomorrow. I said earlier in the week that things aren’t accidents with God and I firmly believe things unfold as they are supposed to.
“We have to take care of business tomorrow and there’s no team I’d like to beat more than Kennedale. I’m confident in our group of girls and I think the less Kennedale sees of Sydney Laws the better.”
