MARBLE FALLS – The Early Lady Horns avenged last year’s surprising loss in a one-game area playoff by hammering Comfort, 10-3, Friday night to advance to the Region I-2A quarterfinals.

The District 6-2A champion Lady Horns (17-11) chalked up 12 hits as a team and scored three runs in the first inning, one in the third, four in the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning.

Andee Jo Rose led the Early attack with a double and two RBIs, while Kassidy Allen chipped in two hits and one RBI. Janae Williams also doubled and Sarah Smithey drove in a run as well, while the rest of the Lady Horn runs were aided by Comfort miscues.

In the circle, Kelbie Crelia yielded 10 hits, but struck out five batters. Comfort scored twice in the first inning and tacked on a sixth-inning run.

“We did a great job keeping our composure,” said Lady Horns first-year head coach Betty Molk. “We had some intense moments throughout, and we’re a young team, but we did a good job of keeping everybody together.”

Early will face either Blanco or Clyde in the regional quarterfinals next weekend.
