Two of the three positions of the Brownwood Independent School District board of trustees have candidates, and a contest has materialized in one of those.

But no one has filed for the position currently held by trustee Nesa Morelock, who has announced she will not be a candidate in the Nov. 6 elections.

Incumbent Eric Evans will seek a new term in Place 4, and Brant Baugh has also filed as a candidate, school officials said Thursday afternoon.

Brad Jetton is the only candidate who has filed in Place 5. That position is currently held by Michael Coppic.

Board trustee application packets are available for pick up from Karen Dempsey in the BISD Central Office located at 2707 Southside Drive, Brownwood.

The deadline to file for a place on the ballot is Monday, Aug. 20. The office will close at 4:30 p.m. that day.

If no candidate files for Place 2, the vacancy may be filled by an appointment.
