Rick Springfield, the Australian-born singer, songwriter and actor whose song, “Jessie's Girl” is counted among the top 100 songs of the '80s, has been named the Friday headliner for this year's Brownwood Reunion Celebration.
And Saturday night will feature Wade Bowen, an “American-Texas Country” singer from Waco. Bowen's tune, “Saturday Night,” is currently on the charts, and he may be best known for his 2008 release, “If We Ever Make It Home.”
The Brownwood Reunion Celebration has a history of great shows, and this year's headliners are right up there with the best, said Kim Peterson, Reunion Celebration executive director.
The 12th annual Reunion Celebration is on the calendar for the third weekend in September – Sept. 14, 15 and 16.
“Things are shaping up already,” Peterson said. “We've got the popular events back and we're bringing in some new. I am really excited about this year's headliners. We're really setting the tone for another great event.”
Jodie Hohertz, who chairs the entertainment committee, is working on finding the opening entertainment for those Friday and Saturday shows, Peterson said, “but it's all coming together.
“We've already gotten entries for the barbecue cookoff and the 5 and 10K runs. We'll have “Hands on a House” again this year. Oh, and we'll have the bungee trampoline again.”
Last year, the Reunion committee announced there would be the human-sized “hamster ball” that people could get in and roll around, but Peterson said that vendor never showed up.
“We've got a different vendor this year, and so we're going to have that, and it's supposed to be on water,” she said.
In all, there will be some 114 vendors, Peterson said.
