ABILENE — The Brownwood Lady Lions collected their first volleyball victory of the season Friday during pool play at the Abilene Bev Ball Classic.
The Lady Lions knocked off San Angelo TLC, 25-19 and 25-13, but also suffered losses to Abilene High, 25-14 and 25-18, and Lubbock Trinity Christian, 25-19 and 25-16.
Brownwood (1-4) will resume tournament play at 9 a.m. today against the Abilene High JV.
“Overall we could’ve performed better but I’m pleased with the effort that was given,” said Lady Lions interim head coach Melanie Kunkel. “In our three games we got to see areas we are struggling in and things we need to work on. We also did some great things that I look forward to seeing more of as the season goes on.”
In the victory over TLC, Katie Pevehouse led the Lady Lions with five kills followed by three from Brooklyn Stewart, two each from Devin Lyons and Brooke Montemayor and one by Makayla Hight.
Paxton Vaughn recorded seven assists while Naomi Rosato finished with six.
Vaughn also led Brownwood with 16 service points followed by 11 from Pevehouse, seven from Lyons, five from Rosato, four each from Stewart and Mabree Moore and two from Cassandra Mendez.
