ALBANY — The Bangs Lady Dragons split their final two matches at the Albany volleyball tournament Saturday as they closed their first week under first-year head coach Colleen Westfall with a 4-2 record.

The Lady Dragons began Saturday’s action with a 25-14, 21-25, 25-17 victory over Aspermont, followed by a 25-21, 25-23 loss at the hands of Abilene Christian High.

“The girls were slow to wake up and get going, but they never gave up,” Westfall said of the victory over Aspermont. “They dug down and fought for that last set win.

“In the second game, the girls played hard, we just couldn’t get our offense going.”

The victory over Aspermont featured 11 kills from Rikki Loman, eight from Jaylee Roberts, six from Kinsie Ward, two from Kassidy Adams and one each from Cheyenne Lovelady and Briannah Sosa.

Ward also chipped in a team-high 11 digs followed by five each from Lovelady, Roberts and Kylie Allen, three apiece from Adams and Kady Kyle and one from Loman.

Lovelady’s 11 assists were a team high trailed by two from Adams and one from Ward.           

Against Abilene Christian, Ward finished with eight kills, seven digs and two aces; Allen tallied two kills, 10 digs and one ace; and Lovelady collected 14 assists with three digs and one ace.

The Lady Dragons will visit Brownwood at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
