The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets soccer team dipped to 1-5 in American Southwest Conference action and 3-6-1 overall with a pair of 1-0 home losses to Texas Lutheran Friday and Schreiner Saturday.

    In Saturday's defeat at Citizens National Bank Field, Schreiner recorded the only goal at the 22:06 mark when David Machado scored from six yards out following a rebound.

    The Mountaineers attempted 12 shots, with five on goal, as HPU goal keeper Drew Clanahan tallied three saves.

    Howard Payne finished with 11 shots and seven on goal — two by Jacob Moore and one apiece by Joseph Gardner, Miles Vincent, Eric Young, Oliver Barker and David Rucker.

    In Friday's loss to Texas Lutheran, the only goal came at the 23:01 mark of the first half when the Bulldogs' Gio Silveyra scored from 18 yards out following an assist from Zeke Del Toro.

    The Yellow Jackets were limited to just seven shots, with three on goal — one each by Chris Thompson, Rucker and Gardner. Texas Lutheran finished with 11 shots and six on goal.

    Ryan Young notched four saves for the Yellow Jackets, while Jonathan Michael was credited with two for Texas Lutheran.

    Howard Payne will attempt to bounce back at 6 p.m. Thursday when it visits ASC foe East Texas Baptist.
