The Brownwood High tennis team climbed back over .500 with a 17-2 home victory over San Saba Tuesday to improve to 6-5 overall.

The Lions went undefeated in their nine matches beginning with three doubles victories which were earned by the teams of Brian Bowen and Mark Johnson (8-0 over Gunnar Hibler and Aaron Krueger), Zak Blake and Joaquin Alonzo (8-0 over Jairo Casco and Ryan Guidroz) and Matthew Bryant and Bennie Salazar (8-1 over William Cooley and Drew Daniel).

In boys singles action, wins belonged to Johnson (6-0, 6-1 over Krueger), Alonzo (6-3, 6-2 over Hibler), Salazar (6-2, 6-0 over Casco), Aaron Pulley (6-3, 6-0 over Cooley), Nathan Ross (6-2, 6-1 over Alex Baker) and Brandon Muenzler (6-2, 6-1 over Daniel).

On the girls side, the Lady Lions also claimed all three doubles matches with victories collected by the duos of Emily Harding and Delaney Bennett (8-5 over Joannah Crosby and Joely Haverland), Stephanie Thompson and Rosie Cadena (8-1 over Josie Dawson and Morgan Jimenez) and Karina Garcia and Lindsey Williams (8-0 over Marissa Anaya and Mikayla Eden).

Tallying singles wins for the Lady Lions were Bennett (6-2, 6-3 over Haverland), Cadena (6-1, 6-2 over Dawson), Williams (6-3, 6-3 over Kristen Isham) and Brittany Blake (6-2, 6-0 over Anaya).

The mixed doubles match also went Brownwood’s way as Ross and Mabrey Sharpe knocked off Isham and Baker, 9-7.

In matches that did not count toward the final team scores, singles wins were earned by Lions Timothy Sheehan (8-3 over Guidroz) and Stephen Darneal (8-0 over Stone Sealy), along with Lady Lion Lexxie Farrar (8-4 over Allison Christian).

Also, the mixed doubles team of Noah Marlin and Brittany Blake downed Sealy and Christian, 8-0.

The remainder of Brownwood’s fall semester schedule includes a Saturday date against Big Spring at Abilene Cooper, an Oct. 23 match against Groesbeck in Gatesville and home contests against Sweetwater on Oct. 27, Jim Ned on Oct. 30 and Gatesville on Nov. 3.
