On Sept. 26, 1944, a 20-year-old second lieutenant from Oklahoma, John Quillin, parachuted into a lake near the town of Lisse, Holland. Quillin was the co-pilot of a B-17 bomber that was shot down by a German gun crew. Quillin's son, David, a 3M engineer, lives in Brownwood with his wife, Rebel, and their two young children. In September, the town of Lisse honored the crew with the unveiling of a monument. The Quillin family attended the emotional ceremony.
