Funeral services for Eugene Russell Pettijohn, age 88, of Gustine, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brownwood, with Father Francis Njuko officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with recitation of the Rosary beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo., with military honors.

Eugene passed away Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, in Brownwood, Texas. He was born on May 24, 1924, in Bussey, Iowa, to Pearl and Elnora (Harris) Pettijohn. He was married to Lorrine Smith in 1946. He was Traffic Manager for Commercial Carriers until he retired in 1989. Eugene served in the Army during World War II, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, traveling, and playing pool.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lorrine Pettijohn; a daughter, Rhonda Nicholson of Gustine; five grandchildren, Audra Powell of Las Cruces, N.M., Melissa Burnham of Irving, Texas, Ian Nicholson of Abilene, Texas, Saundra Dygert of Marion, Iowa, and Michael Pettijohn of Ceder Rapids, Iowa; also 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Elnora Pettijohn; a son, Stephen; and a grandson, Christopher.
