Members of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce are gearing up for one of the biggest events of the year, the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce Presents a “GIANT” Annual Banquet.

The banquet will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Brownwood Coliseum. The itinerary for the evening states that the reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., the dinner will begin at 7 p.m. and the awards will follow at 7:30 p.m.

The theme derives from the 1956 film “GIANT” which stared then superstars Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean. The film is the epic tale of a Texas rancher who falls in love with a horse owner’s daughter while in Maryland. They are married immediately and return to Texas. The story spans across two generations and follows their family and its rivalry with cowboy and later oil baron, Jett Rink, played by Dean.

This theme is ideal for this year’s annual banquet as the red carpet theme from the Chamber’s spring business showcase held on April 4 will be combined with the current West Texas oil boom and the preparation for the impact of the Cline Shale.

Several residents will be recognized for their achievements of the last year. The awards segment of the evening will include Outgoing Board Members and Chairman, Good Neighbors, Community Partner, Small, Medium and Large Business of the Year, Professional of the Year, Man and Woman of the Year and the Groner Pitts “Lifetime of Service” Award.
