When Teresa Baugh first learned her son wanted to join the U.S. Marines, she knew she was going to need help coping with the change.

“He decided that’s something he wanted to do,” Baugh said. “Since he enlisted before graduating high school, I joined Brownwood Marine Moms to help me deal with the day he would be leaving.”

Baugh’s son, Pfc. Austin Wade Baugh, graduated from Early High School in 2012 and graduated from recruit training on Sept. 10, 2012. Austin is currently stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., where he is attending Military Occupational Specialty, which he will graduate from in three weeks.

“I miss him so much,” Bauh said. “He’s my only son, and it’s been hard dealing with him not being here, but I’m just so proud of him. Next month, he will be promoted to Lance Corporal.”

Baugh credits the group for helping her deal with the struggles she has faced dealing with her son’s enlistment.

“It’s a big support system and the camaraderie is amazing,” Baugh said. “You have the opportunity to ask questions and get the answers because they’ve already gone through it.”

Brownwood Marine Moms meets once a month and is led by Courtney Foust. The next meeting of the Brownwood Marine Moms will be at noon today at Chili’s. For more information about Brownwood Marine Moms, visit them on Facebook at Facebook.com/Brownwood.marinemoms.
