ALPINE — Knotted at 2 at the end of nine innings, the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets exploded for 10 runs in the top of the 10th to stun Sul Ross, 12-2, Friday night.

HPU improved to 19-16 overall and 5-8 in ASC West action, while Sul Ross slipped to 11-20 and 3-10.

During the 10-run outburst, Sam Dollahite’s bunt and a Sul Ross error scored Jake Sadler from second base, who led off with a double. Carlton Brown then doubled home Dollahite with one out for a 4-2 lead.

With the bases loaded and still only one out, Alan Sailors walked, Colton Buzzard was hit by a pitch and Joshua Martinez walked to stretch the lead to 7-2. Sadler then followed with a two-RBI single.

Again with sack full and two outs, Ben Butler drew an RBI walk to make the score 10-2, while Brown followed with a two-RBI single to cap the scoring.

Brown also homered in the fourth to start the scoring and Kyle Kulczyk added an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth.

HPU plays twice more at Sul Ross today starting at 1 p.m.
