Mildred “Granny” Scharff, born May 13, 1920, of Grand Prairie, Texas, with family by her side ascended to Heaven Sunday, April 28, 2013, at the age of 92.
Mrs. Scharff will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Laurel Land Cemetery, 6000 S. R.L. Thorton Freeway in Dallas, Texas, 75232.
Mildred never came across a stranger, she loved every one. She could always be found in conversation with everyone whether it was about life, old stories or a good joke. Throughout her life she held many jobs; most often she spoke of experiences about the gas station she operated, restaurant, or the flea market in Grand Prairie. Mildred kept journals along the way describing her life: lessons she had learned, what God was always teaching her. One hand written passage said, “One of the greatest pleasures in life is the joy of giving. It does not have to be something expensive, but many times it is a simple act of kindness that warms my heart.” She was always passing knowledge to family and friends.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of more than 40 years, Leighton Scharff; grandsons, Michael Wayne and James Ray Scharff; great-granddaughter, Amy Oden; and great-grandson, Andrew Thomas McGrath.
She leaves to mourn her legacy her son, Tom Scharff; her daughter, Mary Cooper of Brownwood; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and various nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
The Family would like to Thank Rocky Creek Baptist Church for all of your love and kindness to us.
You opened your arms and hearts to our family long ago and that means so much to us. God has his hands on you for sure!
