SUGAR LAND The Brownwood Heat captured the ASA 14U Girls B state championship, collecting four victories the weekend of June 21-23 to earn first place.

The Heat knocked off Texas City (18-10), Fury (10-4) and the Wharton Thunder twice (3-1 and 13-5).

Team members include Cameron Dyer, Haley Pitts, Brianna Zapata, Alexis Larrea, Kristen Fuentes, Kayla McFarden, Tori Burkett, Emily Perez, Ashley Gomez, Vanessa Perez, Alyssa Quintero and Victoria Sanchez. The Heat was coached by Albert Larrea, Albert Gomez and Peter Sanchez.

In the victory over Texas City, the Heat scored 10 runs in the sixth and final inning to pull away for the win.

The win over Fury saw the Heat tally three runs each in the fifth and seventh innings, two runs in the second and one run apiece in the third and sixth.

The eight-run triumph over Wharton featured three-run innings in the first, fourth and fifth innings, along with a four-run second.

In the 3-1 decision against Wharton, the Heat chalked up two runs in the sixth inning after pushing the first run across the board in the third.
