BALLINGER– Local law enforcement officers in Ballinger, Texas arrested a man this Friday afternoon, under charges of stealing a pickup truck this morning in Bronte, Texas. The vehicle was taken from the parking lot of a convenience store nearly at 10:20 a.m.

A vehicle matching the description was spotted on Highway 158, en route to Ballinger, Texas, and after being chased by authorities an unknown subject fled on foot near the corner of Avenue A and Highway 158, on the east side of Short Stop.

The owner of the stolen vehicle reported that there was a firearm inside the truck, loaded with shotgun shells and .45 caliber rounds.

The suspect was described as a white male, 25 to 30-years-of-age, wearing a dark-colored ball cap, possibly beige, and a dark shirt. He was wearing bluejeans and had visible tattoos on his right arm.

Local authorities are not releasing the name of the suspect for now.

The case is under investigation by the Coke County Sheriff’s Department assisted by the Runnels County Sheriff’s Office and the Ballinger Police Department.

Before the vehicle was abandoned on Avenue A, witnesses spotted the truck southbound on Highway 158, and take a sharp right turn narrowly missing two pedestrians. According to the witnesses the truck took the curve on two wheels.

The driver left the truck and fled west, toward Country Club Road. Authorities conducted a search inside the truck and found a revolver.

A Coke County Sheriff’s Deputy processed the vehicle on site, for evidence.

The stolen vehicle is a black Chevrolet crew cab pickup truck. 

At 12:20 p.m. a suspect was detained by the Ballinger Police Department on the 1600 block of North Broadway. The suspect remains in custody of local authorities pending the investigation.
