BALLINGER– Ballinger Police Department Corporal Larry Nitsch, better known as L.J. Nitsch, was found dead this morning at his sister’s residence, at the 1400 block of Hutchings Avenue, in Ballinger, Texas. Nitsch, a 3-plus years veteran with Ballinger PD, was 25-years-old.

Causes of death remain unknown, as his body was sent to Lubbock Medical Examiner, in Lubbock, Texas. Ballinger Chief of Police Mark McNulty said that the case will remain under investigation.

The body was found at 7:15 a.m. It is believed that he passed away at some point between 2 and 3 a.m.

Nitsch was a well-know member of the community and his departure leaves a deep hole in the lives of many people. He was bound to get married this week. “He was a good guy, he’ll be missed,” said McNulty.

Nitsch, who started his law enforcement career in Ballinger, was originally from Winters, Texas. Earlier this year Nitsch’s service and dedication earned him the promotion to corporal. He received his two-bar chevron on May 10, 2013.

Nitsch was pronounced dead on site by Judge Glenda Wood.
