BRADY — Funeral mass for Alfred F. Schwertner, 94, of Melvin will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at ST. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brady, with Father Zientek and Father Hilary officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady.
He died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, in Eden.
He was born April 26, 1919, in Corn Hill community of Williamson County, to Walter William Schwertner and Mary Annie (Woehel) Schwertner. He was married to Louise Sturm on Aug. 27, 1940, in Rowena. He was a farmer/rancher. He worked with Catholic Life Insurance since 1942. He was married to Dorothy Poe Kennedy on Dec. 27, 1990, in Brady. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brady.
Survivors include his sons, Alfred G. Schwertner and wife Lavanda of Melvin and Anthony James “A.J.” Schwertner and wife Beth of Brady; daughters, Gloria Lee Murray of Doole, Janice Louise Carter and husband Tommy of Angleton, and Louleen Louise Black and husband Steve of Kerrville; brother, Andrew Schwertner and wife Rosie of Lowake; sisters, Rosalee Sturm and Elsie Wilde, both of Wall; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; step-children, Phyllis Kilmer of Hutto and Judy Wier of Carrollton; and several step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both spouses; an infant daughter, Mary Louise; two brothers; and two sisters.
