BALLINGER– The Ballinger Bearcats came from behind and rescued a last-minute tie last night at Bearcat Stadium, in a Junior Varsity confrontation against the San Saba Armadillos. The score ended up 14-14 and the JV Bearcats are now 1-1 with one draw for the 2013 high school football season.

After and early touchdown in the first quarter, the Bearcats fell behind and had to comeback putting together their longest drive of the night.

Ballinger stopped San Saba in their first offensive drive forcing a punt from their own 10. Damian Michalewicz returned the punt from the 35-yard line and left the Bearcats knocking at San Saba’s door at the 12-yard line. In the first play of the drive quarterback Colton Little rushed the ball into the endzone, with 7:42 remaining to put the Bearcats ahead 6-0.

Ballinger gave up their first points by means of a safety, leaving the score 6-2 with 2:23 left to play in the first quarter.

San Saba took the lead in the second quarter (6:46), with a 13-yard rush by the quarterback Chase Turner. The Armadillos would increase that lead 3:40 before the half, when running back Jose Guerrero carried a ball into the endzone, in both touchdowns the 2-point conversions were stopped by the Bearcats and the teams went into the pause 14-6.

With less than a minute left to play Ballinger would finish their longest drive of the game, when quarterback Colton Little carried a ball 9 yards into paydirt. The 2-point conversion was good with a pass from Little to Michalewicz for the final 14-14.
