Brownwood could move a step closer Tuesday to the construction of a new central fire station, and Waldrop Construction of Brownwood may be the company that gets the job.
City council members will consider awarding a bid of just under $3 million to Waldrop Construction, according to an agenda item briefing sheet for the 9 a.m. council meeting.
Brown Reynolds Watford Architects evaluated the five bids that were received and has recommended that the bid be awarded to Waldrop.
Construction will not begin until after next weekend’s Brownwood Reunion Celebration and is expected to be completed in June of July.
Construction will be funded through a $3.55 million certificate of obligation council members approved earlier for city projects.
In other business Tuesday, council members will:
* Consider approving ordinances on first readings adopting the city’s budget, levying taxes and setting utility rates for the 2013-’14 fiscal year.
* Consider approving amendments to ordinances on first readings that deal with towing charges and making it illegal to prevent access to city water meters.
