GATESVILLE — The regional-bound Brownwood High tennis team improved to 15-2 on the season with a 14-5 non-district neutral site victory over Groesbeck Tuesday.
The Lions captured eight of their matches while the Lady Lions were victorious in six in the lopsided team triumph.
"Groesbeck had a solid team," said Brownwood High tennis head coach Mark Davis. "Our Lions and Lady Lions took it to them in every match. This is likely the caliber of team we will face in the first round at regionals."
For the Lady Lions, singles wins belonged to Delaney Bennett (6-4, 6-1 over Staci Nish), Brittney Blake (6-1, 6-0 over Hadley Heiner), Bailey Bishop (6-4, 16-, 11-9 over Sarah Thompson) and Karina Garcia (6-2, 6-4 over Rusti Morrison).
In doubles action, Lady Lions to claim victories were the teams of Bennett and Rosie Cadena (8-6 over Heiner and Nish) and Blake and Bishop (8-2 over Thompson and Dana Vestal).
On the boys side, Lions to earn singles victories were Mark Johnson (6-0, 6-0 over Noah Rasden), Joaquin Alonzo (6-2, 6-3 over Logan Boecker), Bennie Salazar (6-4, 6-3 over Randy Easley), Matthew Bryant (6-1, 7-5 over Tyler Flatt) and Zak Blake (6-2, 6-2 over Tyler Edwards).
In doubles competition, Lions teams notching wins were Johnson and Alonzo (8-2 over Rasden and Boecker), Bryant and Blake (8-6 over Flatt and Fernando Luque) and Salazar and Caleb Baccus (8-5 over Edwards and Noah Santa Cruz).
The Lions and Lady Lions will visit Sweetwater at 10 a.m. Saturday in their regular season finale, while regional tournament action begins Nov. 1.
