WEATHERFORD ? Mary Joann Smethers, 60, passed into the arms of her Heavenly Father Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, while visiting her daughter in Denton.
Mrs. Smethers, a resident of Brownwood, was born on Sept. 11, 1953, in Cleburne, Texas, to Lewis and Cora Bell Hankins. She was married to the love of her life, Jimmy Smethers, on July 23, 1969. She was a faithful servant of Christ and together with her husband, they pastored churches in Brownwood, Houston, New Mexico, and as missionaries in Mexico City. They have three daughters: Melissa “Misty” and her husband Arthur Switzer, Michelle and her husband Jason Leach, and Jennifer and her husband Randy Taylor.
She has seven beautiful grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Morgan, Hailey, Brady, Dustin, and Michael; and one great-grandson August. She also has one sister, Margaret Hankins; and one brother, Jeff Hankins; along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Dunagan; her brother, Johnny Hankins; and her parents, Lewis and Cora Bell Hankins; as well as her in-laws, Johnny and Charlene Smethers.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home chapel. Graveside services and burial to follow today at Curtis Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas.
