MIDLAND — Samuel Garland White Sr., passed from this life on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at home after a long and courageous battle with heart disease and cancer. He was born June 1, 1931, in the Browser Community, near Richland Springs, Texas, to Ross and Margie White.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl (Billie), Maurice (Mae), and Weston (Cleo); three sisters, Lula (Orville) Beakley, Leoma (Luther) Holder, and Maurine (Bill) Boulware.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geneva McKinnerney White; one son, Samuel Garland White Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Richland Springs High School in 1948 and was married to Geneva McKinnerney on Dec. 22, 1950, in Rochelle, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954. After his military service he completed his formal education at Texas A&M University graduating with an Agriculture degree in 1957. He spent his entire career in the poultry industry living in several locations throughout Texas and Missouri. He retired in 1995 and moved to Midland, Texas, to be near his son and assist him in his nursery business. He was a long time member of the Church of Christ.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Chapel, with Bill Adcox officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, in Richland Springs Cemetery.
