The Brownwood Lady Lions broke a scoreless halftime tie with three second-half goals en route to a 3-1 victory over Gatesville to open District 34-4A soccer action Tuesday at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Alexis Mosqueda and Tristan Escamilla staked the Lady Lions (6-3-2, 1-0) to a 2-0 lead before Gatesville cut the deficit in half with 10 minutes remaining. Escamilla tacked on her second goal less than a minute later to round out the scoring.
“I was pleased with everything except we couldn’t find the back of the net,” said Lady Lions first-year head coach Keith Robinson. “We just couldn’t find anything until the last 15 minutes of the game.
“This game gives us confidence, but it also keeps us humble because we realize there are a few things we still need to work on going into a big game against Lampasas.”
