SAN ANGELO — Brownwood’s Sydney Roberts finished second individually, and the Lady Lions came in fifth as a team at the recent San Angelo Golf Classic held at the San Angelo Country Club and Bentwood Country Club.

Roberts fired back-to-back rounds of 83 to finish with a 166, 12 shots behind tournament champion Sidney Dermody (77-77=154) of Sonora. Sonora was the first-place team overall with a two-day tally of 698 followed by Wolfforth Frenship (746), San Angelo Central (825), Pampa (845) and Brownwood (850).

Also competing for the Lady Lions were Jessica Barrera (117-104=221), Audrey McKillip (122-107=229), Krista Fragua (127-107=234) and Sierra Mendez (131-116=247).

“We had two beautiful days in San Angelo at the Classic,” said Lady Lions golf coach Laura Martin. “I am so proud of all the girls and I am looking forward to a great year.”


Lions debut at Lampasas tournament

LAMPASAS — The Brownwood Lions golf team carded a team score of 361 at their first tournament of the season in Lampasas Monday.

Michael Hamm led the way with a round of 82 followed by Grant Lewis with an 87, Kaimon Ontiveros with a 93, Daniel Zillinski with a 99, Miller Baugh with a 102 and Colt Bertrand with a 105.

“The year’s team should be much improved,” said Lions head coach Mark Wilson.
