COMANCHE — Zada Ozell Byrd, 90, of Comanche, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014.
Funeral services, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at First Baptist Church Comanche. Interment will follow in the Windham Cemetery at Byrd's Store, Brown County, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Heartland Funeral Home in Comanche. Zada Ozell Hollon was born in Brown County, Texas, on July 21, 1923, to the late Arthur L. and Mary Elizabeth (Molly) Hollon. She was married to Leo Vandoil Byrd on Aug. 24, 1941. They had three children. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Comanche. Her greatest joys came from telling others about Jesus, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and spending time with her family and friends. She was an exceptional seamstress and loved oil painting. She was an avid reader. Her focus the last years of her life was prayer.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald L. Byrd; a granddaughter, Sheri Byrd Tyler; a great-grandson, Christopher Byrd, and three beloved sisters, Zora Lico, Ora Flowers, and Norris Sonnier.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years; a son, Dr. Richard W. Byrd and wife Donna of Comanche; a daughter, Judy Byrd Odom and husband Darrell of Shallowater; six grandchildren, Charles Byrd, Bethany Goen, Marissa Bonsell, Matthew Byrd, Michael Byrd, and Nathan Byrd; nine great-grandchildren, Stuart Hatcher, Jared Byrd, Jordan Byrd, Faith Ann Byrd, Zimrie Goen, Zailie Goen, Carly Bonsell, Greenly Bonsell, and Anna Byrd; two brothers, Lonnie L. Hollon and James Roy Hollon; one sister, Thelma Hollon Pennington; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
