COLEMAN — Lee Eldridge Abernathy, age 89, of Rockwood, Texas, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Bangs Nursing Home.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Whon Cemetery, with Brother Cole Farmer of Brady officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Allcorn Funeral and Cremation Care of Coleman.
Lee Eldridge Abernathy was born Nov. 5, 1924, to the late Lambert and Lois (Roland) Abernathy in Millersview, Texas. He was married to Trudy Clifton on Dec. 1, 1943 in San Angelo. Mr. Abernathy lived most of his life in Coleman County moving from Concho County following his service in the United States Army. Until 1946, Mr. Abernathy served in the 11th Airborne Division of the U. S. Army where he qualified as a gliderist. He was involved in many jobs throughout his life, but primarily worked as a farmer and rancher in the area. He was an active member of the Rockwood Baptist Church.
Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife, Trudy Abernathy of Rockwood; son, Ricky Abernathy of Rockwood; daughter, Linda Rutherford and husband Larry of Rockwood; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
