AUSTIN — The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets continued their stellar pitching performances of late en route to a third straight American Southwest Conference baseball victory, 1-0 over No. 16 Concordia Friday night.

The Yellow Jackets (14-13, 11-11) limited second-place LeTourneau to one run on four hits over 15 innings in a doubleheader sweep this past Saturday.

Friday night against ASC leader Concordia (21-7, 16-5), Matthew Parks tossed a complete-game, eight-hit shutout for the Yellow Jackets. Parks struck out six, walked five and left 11 base runners stranded.

Howard Payne managed only four hits off Scott Weinschenk, who struck out 12 and walked three, still the Yellow Jackets were able to scratch across the game’s only run in the top of the ninth inning.

The HPU ninth began with a leadoff single to right-center field by Kyle Kulczyk. C.J Schumann came on to pinch run for Kulczyk and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Will Roberts.

With one out, Jake Sadler ripped an RBI single up the middle that plated Schumann with the only run.

Roberts also contributed a second-inning single while Colton Brown singled in the eighth to account for the other two Yellow Jacket base hits.

HPU moved into a tie with Sul Ross for sixth place in the ASC standings with the win, as the top eight teams advance to the postseason. The series concludes with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. today.
