SAN SABA — After making a stop at the Brownwood Country Club Monday, the West Texas Junior Champions Tour played an 18-hole tournament at the San Saba River Golf Course Tuesday — and many of the same local names dotted the leaderboard there, as well.
On the heels of a third-place effort in Brownwood, Blanket’s Luke Kinkade captured first place in the boys 14-15 division with a round of 86 Tuesday — two shots better than the 88 of Comanche’s Bronte Hermesmeyer. Toby Florence, also from Blanket, placed fourth with a round of 99.
Sidney’s Grant Drummond, son of Howard Payne Yellow Jackets basketball coach Troy Drummond, won the nine-hole coed 8-9 division for the second straight day with a round of 45. Placing second was Shay West of San Angelo with a 52.
Blanket’s Marki Kinkade was second in the girls 12-14 draw with a round of 96, six shots behind first-place Allison Hendrick of Lampasas. Sister Karli Kinkade of Blanket finished third in the coed 6-7 division with a round of 60, which trailed only Dylan Ford of Sonora (51) and Walt Thompson of Goldthwaite (51).
Comanche’s Kasey Middleton won the boys 12-13 division with an 18-hole tally of 81, followed by Drew Hermesmeyer of Goldthwaite with a second-place 84. Bryce Hermesmeyer of Comanche came in fourth with a 102.
In the coed 10-11 ranks, Goldthwaite’s Cole Hermesmeyer came in second with a 56, trailing only Maddi Olson of Abilene who fired a 50. Patrick Jackson of Goldthwaite was third with a round of 57.
Early’s Kwinton Reno came in tied for fourth — just one stroke off the winning tally — for the second day in a row in the boys 16-18 division. He posted a 76 along with Blake January of Lampasas. Reno placed tied for fourth with Brownwood’s Michael Hemm Monday.
Chance Craig and Clayton Meyer of Llano, as well as Jeffrey Maciejewski of San Angelo, all finished tied for first place with 3-over-par tallies of 75.
Sidney’s Garrett Drummond carded an 87 to place 12th.
