GRAHAM — The Brownwood High tennis team improved to 2-0 in District 6-4A action Thursday, going on the road and coming away with a 13-6 victory over Graham.
Brownwood, which improved to 8-7 overall, swept the girls matches and added four victories on the boys side, as well.
“This was an extremely important match and we got a great effort by the entire team,” said Brownwood High tennis coach Mark Davis.
In doubles competition for the Lady Lions, wins were earned by the No. 1 team of Delaney Bennett and Rosie Cadena (6-1, 6-2 over Victoria Ertl and Isabelle Ertl), the No. 2 tandem of Bailey Bishop and Brittney Blake (6-1, 6-2 over Jessenia Garcia and Emily Rice) and the No. 3 duo of Emma Sharpe and Katherine Bautista (6-0, 6-0 over Tori Wright and Rachel Bartholomew).
Singles victories for the Lady Lions belonged to No. 1 Bennett (6-1, 6-2 over Amber Langworthy), No. 2 Cadena (6-0, 6-1 over Victoria Ertl), No. 3 Blake (6-3, 6-0 over Isabelle Ertl), No. 4 Bishop (6-1, 6-3 over Garcia), No. 5 Sharpe (6-3, 6-0 over Rice) and No. 6 Bautista (6-2, 6-3 over Bartholomew).
The Lions collected three singles victories, which were tallied by No. 2 Zach Hall (6-1, 6-0 over Marcus Montfort), No. 3 Casey Shannon (6-0, 2-6, 10-7 over Dallas Elmore) and No. 6 Jeremy Robertson (6-2, 6-4 over Stephen Rice).
In doubles action, the No. 2 team of Hall and Shannon notched a win, downing Wesley Duke and Jordan Garner, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Brownwood will face Mason and Fredericksburg in Mason Saturday, then the Lions and Lady Lions host Abilene Wylie in a district battle at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
