In a game called due to lightning, the Brownwood Freshman White Lions tallied an 8-0 victory over Irion County Thursday.
Defensively, the Lions limited Irion County to four first downs.
Niko Kamitchos scored the only touchdown on a 1-yard run, while Paul David Quillin connected with Preston Johnston on the two-point conversion.
The touchdown was set up by runs of 15 and 23 yards by Kamitchos, followed by a fourth-and-9 conversion in which Quillin completed a pass to Jesse Sanchez.
Other standouts for the Lions included Angel Hernandez, Arnulfo Zacate, Alvaro Villarreal, Adrian Vielma and Alex Vielma.
Freshman Maroon Lions 28, Alvarado 28
The Brownwood Freshman Maroon Lions scored with less than 30 seconds left to forge a 28-28 tie with Alvarado Thursday night.
Rylan Reagan tossed three touchdown passes of 15 yards to Gavin Jefferson, 40 yards to Tristin Revada and 30 yards to Hunter Mares. Dylan Hickey also contributed a 42-yard touchdown carry.
Jefferson and Hickey each converted a two-point try on the ground.
Defensively, Jefferson recorded an interception and Patrick Nash recovered a fumble.
Alvarado 33, JV Lions 8
The Brownwood JV Lions experienced defeat for the first time in 2014, suffering a 33-8 loss to Alvarado Thursday night.
The only points of the night for the Lions came in the third quarter as Xavier Armenta scored on a 68-yard run, which cut the deficit to 20-6. Later in the period, the Lions blocked an extra point which was returned 80 yards for two points by Joe Zapata.
In the first half, the Lions made three defensive stops in the opening quarter, but the offense never got rolling as Brownwood faced a 14-0 deficit at halftime.
