ALPINE — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets will carry a win streak into the start of the 2015 volleyball campaign as they closed out the 2014 season with a 26-24, 25-23, 25-17 victory over Sul Ross Friday.

The Lady Jackets (3-22, 1-15) avenged an Oct. 4 five-set home loss to Sul Ross and also avoided a winless American Southwest Conference record. Howard Payne’s victory came on the heels of Tuesday’s straight-set non-conference win at Schreiner.

Breanne Cathey ignited the Lady Jackets’ attack with 14 kills followed by 10 from Micah Cisneroz, seven from Tolli Wylie, six from Briana Williams and three from Taylor Reid.

Allison Eaton dished out 32 assists while Reid served three aces trailed by two from Eaton and one each from Cisneroz and Tate Sullivan.

Defensively, Williams posted 19 digs followed by Shelby Bridges with 16, Cisneroz with 14, Eaton with eight, Reid with seven, Wylie with two and Cathey and Sullivan with one apiece.

Wylie was credited with two blocks while Cathey and Eaton added one each.

For Sul Ross (5-21, 1-15), Raehgan Shaw and Carly Montero recorded nine kills each, Katie Reeves finished with 27 assists, Reilly Junge tallied 18 digs and Shaw contributed seven blocks.
