CLARKSVILLE, Ark. — After opening American Southwest Conference action with three straight victories — all at home — the Howard Payne Lady Jackets completed a three-game road swing without a win.

Monday night, the Lady Jackets were dealt their third consecutive ASC defeat, falling to the University of the Ozarks Lady Eagles, 64-61.

Trailing by seven points at halftime, 30-23, and down by 10 points, 55-45, with 8:02 left, the Lady Jackets (6-4, 3-3) were able to piece together a 14-4 run to draw even at 59 with 2:41 left.

But Ozarks (7-5, 4-4) picked up three points at the free throw line, while HPU went scoreless for a 2:11 stretch before Mackenzie Kimball’s bucket pulled the Lady Jackets within 62-61 with 30 seconds left.

Ashley Hipps scored in the paint for Ozarks with 10 seconds left to boost the lead back to three points.

With four seconds remaining, HPU preseason All-American Danyel Bradley fired a tying three-point attempt, which clanged off the rim as Ozarks held on for the victory.

Howard Payne converted just 32 percent (24 of 76) of its field goal attempts and only 20 percent (3 of 15) of its three-point tries, along with shooting 59 percent (10 of 17) at the free throw line.

The Lady Jackets owned a 53-48 edge in rebounds and committed a mere 12 turnovers to Ozarks’ 18, but HPU’s cold shooting proved too much to overcome.

Bradley was the only Lady Jacket to finish in double figures with 15 points trailed by Sarahi Castillo with eight points, Yessenia Cazares with seven, Jessica Galaviz with six, Kalin Hanna with four and a team-high 10 rebounds, Dominique Featherstone with four, Sarah Van Remmen with three, Jada Evans with two and Kristin Cunningham and Erionna Brown with one point each.

Ozarks, which shot 39 percent (21 of 54) overall and 77 percent (17 of 22) at the free throw line, received 18 points and 10 boards from Bryanna Moltz, 16 points from Roseanna Ezell, 10 points and 10 rebounds from Hipps and 10 points from Madison Sherrer.

The Lady Jackets, whose last victory occurred Dec. 16 against Hardin-Simmons, will visit McMurry (1-15) at 6 p.m. Thursday in a non-conference tilt.

HPU returns to ASC action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts Louisiana College (6-2, 3-2).
