MINERAL WELLS — The Brownwood Lions scored a pair of second-half goals to earn their first District 4-4A soccer victory, 2-1, at Mineral Wells Friday night.
Brownwood (3-6-2, 1-1) gave up the first goal 12 minutes into the second half, but answered four minutes later as Daniel Martinez found the back of the net.
The Lions produced the winning goal with 20 minutes left as Abraham Oviedo scored off a free kick. The ball deflected off the top of the hands of the Mineral Wells keeper into the top of the net.
The Lions will play their season and district home openers Tuesday as they host Stephenville.

MINERAL WELLS — The Brownwood Lady Lions suffered their fourth consecutive shutout loss and fell to 0-2 in District 4-4A soccer action with a 3-0 setback at Mineral Wells Friday.
The Lady Lions (6-6-1, 0-2) gave up the first goal at the 28:26 mark of the opening half on a corner kick. Mineral Wells tacked on two more goals after intermission, icing the game with a penalty kick with 2:21 left.
The Lady Lions will be back on the road Tuesday as they venture to Stephenville.
