The Howard Payne Lady Jackets are seeking their initial victory of the season as they host Huston-Tillotson at 1 p.m. today in their first two home games of the 2015 campaign.

The Lady Jackets are coming off a pair of losses at Our Lady of the Lake, 6-0 and 11-4, Saturday in their first two games of the season.

In Saturday’s shutout loss, the Lady Jackets (0-2) were limited to two hits — one by shortstop Kodi Glosson out of the leadoff spot and the other by first baseman Shandi Winstead.

Howard Payne pitcher Celese Tirres, in her first start as a Lady Jacket, yielded eight runs on eight hits, including one home run, with three strikeouts and one walk.

Defensively, HPU committed just one error.

OLOL (4-0) scored once in the bottom of the second inning and tacked on five runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Megan Perez launched a three-run home run for OLOL while Elizabeth Rodriguez also recorded an RBI. Perez, Rodriguez, Amanda Sanchez, Megan Ramirez, Brittany Stone, Victoria Balderas, Krystal Zamora and Kristina Tiffany contributed hits for OLOL.

In the 11-4 nightcap, the Lady Jackets tallied single runs in the first and second innings, and two more runs in the third. However, OLOL chalked up eight runs over the first three innings to open an 8-4 edge, then tacked on three more in the fourth and fifth frames.

Howard Payne finished with nine hits, but committed seven errors in the field.

Tayler Rushing started in the circle and surrendered six runs on eight hits, including one home run, with one walk and one strikeout. Adrienne Sanchez worked two innings of relief and gave up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Tirres pitched the final 1.2 innings and yielded one run on four hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk.

Rushing led HPU with three hits and scored a pair of runs, while Kennedy Coffin added two hits and Glosson, Winstead, Gaby Muniz and Erin McLeod chipped in one hit apiece. McLeod was also credited with both Lady Jacket RBIs.

Stone and Taylor Doege finished with three hits and one RBI each for OLOL, while Tiffany contributed two hits and a pair of RBIs. Brittany Martinez and Jessele Perez also finished with one hit and one RBI apiece.
