BROCK — The Brownwood Lady Lions added two more victories to their season tally Friday, defeating Bowie by a 6-3 count, followed by a 13-7 triumph over Tolar in Brock softball tournament action.
In the win over Tolar, the Lady Lions recorded the game’s first six runs, then yielded seven in the top of the third inning. Brownwood regained an 8-7 edge in the bottom of the third, then tacked on five additional runs during its last two at-bats.
The Lady Lions generated 14 base hits, led by four from Ashley Gomez, three from Tori Burkett, two each from Victoria Sanchez and Ashley Jones, and one apiece by Kayla McFarden, Raeann Gongora and Bridgett Everett — who homered.
Sanchez, Gomez, Jones and Everett finished with two RBIs apiece, while McFarden chipped in one.
Alexis Larrea started in the circle for Brownwood and yielded seven runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and two walks over 3.1 innings. Emily Perez came on in relief to earn the win, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings of one-hit ball with three strikeouts.
n the 6-3 victory over Bowie, the Lady Lions trailed 1-0 after five innings, but scored three runs in the top of the sixth. Bowie drew even at 3 in the bottom of the sixth, but the Lady Lions put three more runs on the board in the top of the seventh to snatch the win.
The Lady Lions finished with 17 hits, but left 11 runners stranded on base. Sanchez and Gomez each contributed two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while Rose Zamarripa added a team-high three hits. McFarden and Danyelle Gongora also recorded two hits each, while one apiece came from Jones, Raeann Gongora and Kristen Fuentes.
Jones and Danyelle Gongora were also credited with RBIs.
In the circle, Perez gave up three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk over seven innings to chalk up the victory.
The Lady Lions (4-1) will conclude tournament play at noon today against Boyd.
