The Howard Payne Lady Jackets concluded their three-game American Southwest Conference softball series against No. 8 UT-Tyler with their third consecutive shutout loss, 9-0, Saturday at Lady Jacket Field.

Howard Payne (4-9, 2-7), which was blanked 6-0 and 13-0 Friday, was limited to just two hits in Saturday’s finale and mustered only five hits in the entire series.

UT-Tyler (13-0, 9-0) pitchers Kelsie Batten and Camrie Helm combined on the shutout. Batten got the start and worked four innings, allowing two hits with a pair of strikeouts. Helm pitched a perfect fifth inning.

Celese Tirres went the distance in the circle for the Lady Jackets, surrendering nine runs — eight earned — on 10 hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Howard Payne also committed one error in the field.

Erin McLeod singled with one out in the bottom of the first inning, then Shandi Winstead added a one-out single in the fourth to account for HPU’s only base runners.

UT-Tyler’s 10-hit onslaught included three and a pair of RBIs from Shelby Shelton, two hits and two RBIs from Lexi Ackroyd and a three-run home run from Kristin Lopez in the top of the third inning. Jackie Mendez and K.K. Stevens each contributed a hit and an RBI, while Raven Rodriguez doubled and Christa Hartnett singled for UT-Tyler.

The Lady Jackets will visit Austin College at 1 p.m. Monday for a doubleheader and Huston-Tillotson at 1 p.m. Wednesday for two more games. HPU returns to ASC action with a three-game set at UT-Dallas, beginning with a 2 p.m. Friday twin bill.
