HPU’s Concert Choir will complete a full semester with three more performances in the next week.

Tonight, Tuesday, April 21, the Choir will present its Spring Tour Program. The program features works of contemporary American composer Dan Forrest, English Renaissance anthems, two works featured in movies, two of 19th century Germany’s “giants,” (Brahms and Schumann), and more. The concert follows the Choir’s spring tour in the DFW area. A number of student soloists and instrumentalists will be highlighted. The Choir is conducted by Dr. Monte Garrett, Professor of Music/Director of Choral Activities, and accompanied by Dr. Elizabeth Wallace, Professor of Piano. The concert will be held in HPU’s Grace Chapel and begin at 7:30 pm.

Saturday, April 25, the Choir will be joined by Southwestern Seminary’s Master Chorale for a performance of Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem), which will be sung in English. Southwestern’s Master Chorale is conducted by Dr. John Simons. The accompaniment will be Brahms’ own orchestral reduction on piano for four hands. The performance will be conducted by Dr. Monte Garrett and be held in HPU’s Mims Auditorium, beginning at 7:30 pm.

Tuesday, April 28, the Choir will travel to Fort Worth to join the Master Chorale in a performance of Brahms’ Requiem with the Fort Worth Symphony. The concert will be held in Truett Auditorium and begin at 7:30.
