The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets were denied their first American Southwest Conference men’s soccer victory Thursday afternoon at Citizens National Bank Field, as the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys escaped with a 1-0 win.

Hardin-Simmons (5-3-1, 3-1) recorded the game’s only goal 12:56 into the contest, scoring off an assist from Cole Johnson.

Howard Payne (2-5, 0-3) attempted 11 shots, three more than Hardin-Simmons, and both teams sent four balls toward the frame.

Cowboy goal keeper Michael Vargas tallied four saves while Yellow Jacket keeper Allan Chehadi finished with three.

Attempting shots on goal for HPU were Emile Accaoui, Alex Sanchez, Ruben Lemus and Shay Pate. For Hardin-Simmons, shots were fired by Odell, Laurent Maksoud, Jio Gonzales and Ryan Lutz.

The Yellow Jackets will attempt to bounce back and capture their first ASC match at 3 p.m. Saturday when McMurry visits.



The Howard Payne Lady Jackets slipped to 1-3 in American Southwest Conference women’s soccer action and 2-5 on the season with a 9-0 loss to the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls Thursday afternoon at Citizens National Bank Field.

Hardin-Simmons, which improved to 6-2-1 overall and 2-1 in ASC competition with its second consecutive victory, tallied six first-half goals and added three more after halftime.

Kami Jones recorded a hat trick for the Cowgirls, scoring at 8:13 on an assist from Sarah Krisa, and again at 20:55 and 23:12 — both unassisted.

Maddie McAdams chipped in two goals for Hardin-Simmons, finding the net at 19:40 and 21:10.

Also scoring were Krisa, with an assist from Jones; Jordan Lara, with an assist from Hadley Schwierking; Kirsten Parrish, with an assist from Josey Meyer; and Jacqueline Thorman, with an assist from Tori Walters.

Hardin-Simmons attempted 39 shots with 25 on frame, while Howard Payne did not fire off a shot.

Kelsie Piland went all 90 minutes in goal for Howard Payne and recorded 16 saves.

The Lady Jackets host McMurry at 1 p.m. Saturday.
