The Brownwood Freshman Maroon Lions chalked up a 20-14 victory over Springtown Thursday night.

The Lions scored their first touchdown with eight minutes left in the opening half on a 6-yard run by Ian Moreno, who also chipped in the two-point conversion.

Brownwood scored against just 73 seconds later on a 64-yard touchdown pass from Clayton Bertrand to Brayden Jetton.

In the fourth period, Moreno tacked on a 65-yard scoring sprint for the final Brownwood points.

The Lions had another opportunity to score late, but kneeled twice at the Springtown 1.

Defensively, Zack Smith, Hunter Leonard and Parker Dorsett each intercepted a pass for the Lions.


Freshman White Lions 36, Springtown 6

The Brownwood Freshman White Lions had little trouble against Springtown Thursday, coasting to a 36-6 victory.

Adan Villarreal scored a pair of first-quarter touchdowns on runs of 35 and 19 yards, then added a third-quarter touchdown from 6 yards out.

Ben Kallman connected with Christian Pearson on a 20-yard scoring toss in the second period, and Kallman also found Dawson Evans in the end zone just before half-time, as the Lions put up 24 first-half points.

Kallman also capped the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth period.


JV Lions 18, Springtown 18

The Brownwood JV Lions and Springtown finished in an 18-18 tie Thursday night.

The Lions jumped out to a 12-0 lead, scoring in the first period on a 4-yard Paul David Quillin touchdown run. Quillin then connected with Tristin Revada on a 17-yard scoring toss, as the Lions held a two-touchdown advantage at halftime.

Springtown pulled even at 12 in the third period, but Patrick Nash pushed the Lions back in front, 18-12, on a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The Porcupines, however, added a late touchdown and the game ended deadlocked.

Defensive standouts for the Lions included Carson Barham with 10 tackles, Nash with six, Kellen Hall with four tackles and an interception and Kirk Vickers with a pair of tackles and a fumble recovery.
