The soccer teams from Howard Payne and McMurry waged battle for 220 minutes Saturday afternoon at Citizen’s National Bank Field, and no squad emerged victorious.
The Lady Jackets and McMurry women, squaring off for the second time this season, played to a 1-1 tie, while the Yellow Jackets and McMurry men followed and duplicated the 1-1 performance.
In the men’s contest, Howard Payne (2-5-1) scored first with 13:40 left in the opening half as Alex Sanchez found the net with an assist from Reid Longabaugh.
McMurry (1-9-1) answered with 25:41 to go in regulation as Abraham Martinez scored with an assist to Eduardo Zuluaga.
The Yellow Jackets attempted 24 shots with 10 on frame, while McMurry tried 10 shots with three on target.
Sanchez, Tracer Moore and Andrew Stevenson fired two shots on goal for HPU while Michael Westerman, Shay Pate, Ruben Lemus and Longabaugh sent one on frame.
In goal, Allan Chehadi recorded two saves for the Yellow Jackets.
On the women’s side, the meeting was a rematch of Howard Payne’s (2-5-1) double-overtime 2-1 victory at McMurry (2-5-2) on Sept. 1 — a game that lasted 100 minutes and 42 seconds.
On Saturday, McMurry struck first on an unassisted goal by Holiday Williams with 16:33 remaining before halftime.
Howard Payne’s Rachel Crane answered just 4:14 into the second half with an assist from Kaitlyn Harrison, and the score remain knotted the next 60 minutes and 46 seconds.
The Lady Jackets attempted 18 shots with 12 on goal, while the War Hawks fired 15 shots with 10 on frame.
Paighton McNeely led HPU with three shots on goal trailed by Crane, Harrison and Vanessa Albert with two apiece and Tyla Tipton, Alex Bernal and Anissa Peralta with one each.
Kelsie Piland finished with nine saves in goal for the Lady Jackets.
The Lady Jackets are back in action at 3 p.m. Thursday at Sul Ross, while the Yellow Jackets return to the field at 3 p.m. Saturday when they welcome UT-Dallas.
