Allison Watkins, AgriLife Extension Horticulturist, will be presenting both gardening seminars in December for The People/Plant Connection. The PPC is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build an educational garden at the Southside Recreation Center in San Angelo. To raise funds for our garden project we offer two gardening seminar each month to help home gardeners with their gardening challenges.

On Saturday, Dec. 5 beginning at 9 a.m., Watkins will be talking about growing herbs in West Texas. She will talk about the best varieties that do well in our area. She will also talk about how to use them in your everyday cooking. As a special treat, everyone attending will have the opportunity to make a small wreath of fresh rosemary. Fresh rosemary will add a wonderful scent to your holidays. The group will meet from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Southside Recreation Center at 2750 Ben Ficklin Rd. in San Angelo, TX. Refreshments will be served and a door prize will be given away. The cost is $15 per person. Preregistration is required to assure materials for the project. Call 325-656-3104.

On Friday, Dec. 18, the Lunch ‘n’ Learn seminar series will continue with Watkins talking about “Growing Fruit Trees and Pecans.” Fall is a great time of year for planting trees. Find out what are the best varieties to plant for our area. You’ll also learn how to and the best time to prune fruit tree. Using the best technique will assure the health of your trees. The group will meet from noon to 1 the Edd B. Keys Building at 113 W. Beauregard in downtown San Angelo. The group will be in the new location of the AgriLife Extension Offices in the former Library location on the first floor by the elevator. Cost is $5 per person.
