Brownwood picks up victories over Class 3A Academy, 6A Round Rock

BROCK — The No. 10 Brownwood Lady Lions completed a 2-3 weekend at the Brock Lady Eagles Showcase with victories in two of their final three contests.

Following losses of 55-30 to Class 3A No. 2 Brock Thursday and 53-49 in overtime to Class 5A Aledo Friday morning, Brownwood tallied its first win of the tournament, 44-35, over Class 3A Little River Academy Friday afternoon.

In the Lady Lions’ first game Saturday, Brownwood was dealt a 33-23 loss by Plano John Paul II.

But the Lady Lions bounced back in the tournament finale with a 48-41 triumph over Class 6A Round Rock.

Brownwood trailed Round Rock 7-6 after one period, 22-20 at halftime and 31-29 through three quarters, but owned a 19-10 edge on the scoreboard over the final eight minutes.

Trejouir Wilson tallied 10 points for Brownwood followed by Breyle Sauseda with nine, Dominique Revada and Mallory Garcia with eight each, Heaven Walker with seven and Tyanne Stewart and Taytum Sutton with three points apiece.

In Friday’s victory over Academy, the Lady Lions led 8-3 after one quarter, trailed 19-17 at halftime and regained a 31-26 edge through three periods.

Garcia led Brownwood with 18 points followed by Wilson with 11, Revada with nine, Walker with four and Sarah Fox with two.

In Saturday’s loss to John Paul, the Lady Lions trailed 7-6 after one quarter but failed to produce a point in the second period and faced a 17-6 deficit at halftime. Through three periods, John Paul had established a 27-14 edge.

Wilson finished with 16 points for the Lady Lions, Garcia added three and Revada and Sutton contributed two points each.

Brownwood (5-3) will host Abilene High at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
