John Stephens, 37, of Glen Rose, screamed out those words to a Brownwood police officer early Saturday morning in the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center, and Stephens got his wish.
Officer Kristobal Salazar initially arrested Stephens on a charge of public intoxication, and charges of aggravated kidnapping and possession marijuana were added later.
According to Salazar’s report:
Officers were dispatched to the Law Enforcement Center lobby at 14:48 a.m. on a public intoxication call. Stephens is alleged in Salazar’s report to have said he’d broken the law by being drunk in a public place, and wanted to be arrested.
“I put Stephens in handcuffs due to his erratic behavior and was trying to find out what had taken place,” Salazar’s report states. “Stephens said he was dropped off at the LEC by his friend. Stephens was being uncooperative and kept stating he wanted to go to jail for pubic intoxication.”
An allegation came out that Stephens had held a woman at knifepoint and forced her to drive him to the Law Enforcement Center.
An officer drove to the woman’s residence in the 2800 block of Fourth to obtain a statement of facts. The officer attempted to secure Stephens’ vehicle and saw a green leafy substance in a cigarette pack and cigarette papers in plain sight in the front seat.
