BEAUMONT — The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets’ two-game win streak was snapped by the NCAA Division I Lamar Cardinals, 97-74, here Tuesday night.

HPU (2-8, 0-2) was coming off wins over Centenary (83-74 in OT) and Rust (68-67) at the Centenary Holiday Classic Dec. 19-20.

Lamar (7-4) was the third and final Division I foe for HPU this season, as the Yellow Jackets lost a 70-56 decision to Abilene Christian and dropped a 92-43 exhibition encounter at Texas State.

Against Lamar, HPU trailed 45-36 at halftime, but surrendered 52 points in the second half.

Rickey Guillory led HPU with 18 points followed by 16 from Bryan Adams, eight from Khyce Randall, seven from Cam Frank, six from Evan Vaden, five each from D.J. Gardner and Volney Willis, three from Baylin Gideon and two each from J. Bailey, Curtis Gile and Shadd Cole.

Dorian Chatman scored a game-high 23 for Lamar.

The Yellow Jackets seek their first American Southwest Conference win at 3 p.m. Saturday at UT-Dallas.
