HALLSVILLE — The No. 16 Brownwood Lady Lions stretched their win streak to 11 games, but needed overtime in Tuesday’s second encounter at the Hallsville tournament to do so.

Brownwood knocked off Pleasant Grove, a member of District 15-4A, by a 61-53 count after outscoring the Lady Hawks 11-3 in the extra session.

“We aren’t playing the best defense for four quarters but we are finding ways to win when it comes down to crunch time,” said Brownwood head coach Heather Hohertz.

The Lady Lions raced out to a 21-10 lead after one quarter and were in front 32-25 at halftime, but took a slim 39-38 advantage into the fourth period, where Pleasant Grove pulled even at 50 at the end of regulation.

Trejouir Wilson tallied 19 points to pace the Lady Lion offense followed by 14 from Dominique Revada, 11 from Heaven Walker, nine from Mallory Garcia and four points each from Sarah Fox and Tyanne Stewart.

Brownwood buried 48 percent (22 of 46) of its shots, including 36 percent (7 of 19) of its treys. The Lady Lions knocked down just 55 percent (10 of 18) of their free throws, but grabbed 32 rebounds and forced seven steals.

Earlier Tuesday, Brownwood recorded a 59-37 victory over another fellow Class 4A program — Palestine, a member of District 18.

The Lady Lions jumped out to a 12-6 lead after one quarter, led 25-14 at halftime and carried a 42-28 edge into the fourth period.

Wilson again led the way with 18 points while Revada and Garcia finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Walker chipped in nine points followed by Taytum Sutton with three and Stewart, Mya McDowell and Breyle Sauseda with two points apiece.

Brownwood converted 50 percent (16 of 32) of its two-point buckets, 21 percent (3 of 14) of its three-pointers and 75 percent (18 of 24) of its free throws. The Lady Lions grabbed 32 rebounds and recorded 14 steals.

The Lady Lions (15-3) wrap up their stay in Hallsville, which is located about 50 miles west of Shreveport, La. and a little more than 300 miles from Brownwood, at 10:30 a.m. today against Class 5A Longview.
