BRECKENRIDGE — The Brownwood Lions defeated Dublin for the second time this season, rallying from a double-digit deficit for a 69-64 victory in their Breckenridge tournament opener Tuesday.

“I’m so proud of the kids today. They came out and fought their guts out,” said Brownwood head coach Grant Freeman, whose team improved to 7-4 on the season. “After the long break, they came out and knocked the rust off. When we went 10, they pulled together and finished the game playing together. I’m proud of their effort.”

The Lions trailed 17-10 after one quarter and 33-30 at halftime, but surged in front, 43-39 through three periods.

Cory Richardson paced Brownwood with 14 points while Blaine Hughes also finished in doubles figures with 12. Crystan Wright added nine points followed by Hayden Day with eight, McLane Moore with seven, Arias Duffie with six, Eric Burns with five, D’Avion Wasson with four and Bryson Wells and Wyatt Burleson with two points apiece.

The Lions resume tournament action at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday against Jacksboro and will face Coleman at 3:30 p.m.
