HALLSVILLE — No. 16 Brownwood's 11-game win streak reached its conclusion Wednesday as the Lady Lions came up on the short end of a 38-37 decision against Class 5A Longview in their finale at the Hallsville tournament.
Brownwood, which finished the tournament with a 4-1 record, trailed 13-5 after one quarter, 21-16 at halftime and 29-22 through three periods, and were unable to complete the comeback.
“We didn't get it done,” said Lady Lions head coach Heather Hohertz. “We didn't shoot the ball well at all and our rebounding was awful. As bad as we played, we gave ourselves a chance but couldn't get a rebound when we needed it.”
The Lady Lions were limited to just 38 field goal attempts and shot 34 percent (13 of 38) from the floor, including 30 percent (6 of 20) from beyond three-point arc. Brownwood sank 55 percent (5 of 9) of its free throws, but pulled down just 17 rebounds and committed 10 turnovers, while tallying eight steals.
Trejouir Wilson paced the Lady Lions with 15 points followed by seven from Heaven Walker, six from Sarah Fox, four from Dominique Revada, three from Mallory Garcia and two points from Tyanne Stewart.
The Lady Lions (15-4) will visit San Angelo Lake View at 6 p.m. Tuesday in their non-district finale, then begin District 6-4A competition at Stephenville on Friday, Jan. 8.
