BRECKENRIDGE — The Brownwood Lions improved to 2-0 at the Breckenridge tournament Wednesday morning with a narrow 55-53 victory over Jacksboro.

The Lions (8-4), who have now doubled last season's win total, grabbed a 13-11 lead after one quarter, which grew to 27-19 by halftime. Brownwood stretched its advantage to 48-34 through three periods, then held off a feverish late charge by Jacksboro.

“It's always interesting when you play at 9:30 in the morning, but the kids came out and played well,” said Lions head coach Grant Freeman. “We have to get better at finishing games, but hats off to the kids for competing.”

McLane Moore's 14 points served as a team-high for the Lions while Blaine Hughes and Cory Richardson each contributed 11 points. Arias Duffie chipped in nine points followed by D'Avion Wasson with five and Eric Burns and Hayden Day with two points apiece.

The Lions will face Coleman at 3:30 p.m. today to wrap up tournament action.
