Early — Early Council members approved an ordinance Tuesday evening that canceled the May 7 general election and will declare the three unopposed current candidates to be elected due to no one running against them.

Current council members whose terms are nearing expiration are Mayor pro-term Benny Alcorn and B.J. McCullough and Charles Matlock.

“No one signed up to run against any of the council,” City Administrator Tony Aaron said after the council meeting.

The approval to have the election was announced during a council meeting last month.

May 7 is also the same date of the scheduled “Special Election.” That election is for a proposition to terminate the Early Economic Development Corporation Type A status and concurrently authorize the creation of the City of Early Municipal Development District.

In an unrelated manner:

Council members revived and approved the City of Early’s annual investment policy and strategy, which entails making sure they invest their money in a secure way and that their funds are “fluid and flexible,” Aaron said.
